Framer form email notifications not working? Eight fixes

The visitor saw the success state, the submission went through, and the email never came. Nine times out of ten it is one of the first three fixes below. Work down the list in order and stop when the test email arrives.

The short answer

Search all mail, including Spam and Promotions, for a value from your test submission. If it is there, fix the filtering. If it is not, check the address under Send To for a typo, publish the site again, and test from the live URL.

Fix 1

Search Spam, Promotions and All Mail

Notification emails from a new site are exactly what spam filters are trained on: an automated sender, a short body, a link. Search all mail for the form name or the value you typed in your test. When you find it, mark it Not spam, add the sender to your contacts, and in Gmail create a filter for the sender with Never send to spam. Do this for every recipient.

Fix 2

Retype the notification address

Open the form, look under Send To, then Email, and retype the address rather than reading it. One swapped letter sends every notification to a stranger or to nowhere. If there are several recipients, separate them with commas and no spaces. A space after a comma can drop the addresses after it.

Fix 3

Publish after every change

Changes to Send To only reach the live site when you publish. If you added or corrected an address and tested straight away, the published form still used the old settings. Publish, then submit from the live URL in a private window.

Fix 4

Check filters, rules and forwarding

A Gmail filter that archives automated mail, an Outlook rule that files newsletters, or a forwarding rule on a shared inbox will hide notifications without a trace. Search the rules for the sender or the word Framer. Shared inboxes and aliases are the usual culprits: the message arrived, in a folder nobody opens.

Fix 5

Ask IT about quarantine

On company email, security tools such as Microsoft Defender or Google’s advanced protection can quarantine automated mail before it reaches any folder you can see. If personal addresses receive the notification and the work address does not, that is the answer. IT can release the messages and allow the sender.

Fix 6

Know which email you are waiting for

Framer’s notification goes to you, the site owner, not to the visitor. If you are testing with your own address in the form and expecting a confirmation, none is sent. Confirmation and welcome emails come from your email tool, for example a Mailchimp or Brevo automation that fires when the contact arrives.

Fix 7

Confirm the submission actually happened

No email can also mean no submission. A form tested in the editor instead of the published site, a button outside the form, or a required field hidden on the phone breakpoint all produce a success state with nothing behind it. If the sheet or CRM you also send to is empty, follow the ten checks for submissions that do not show up.

Fix 8

Check the fallback address

If Send To has no email destination, Framer sends notifications to a fallback address for the site. Make sure that is an inbox someone reads, or add the address you want explicitly and publish.

When email is the wrong tool

Email is a fine alert for a few messages a week. For anything you need to act on quickly, send the submission where the team already looks: a Slack or Discord channel, or your CRM, where HubSpot or Brevo can notify the right owner. Framer Forms Connect does this from the form itself, no Zapier and no extra inbox. The Slack, Discord and HubSpot guides are linked at the bottom of this page.

Still stuck?

Email annyeong@romans.design with the site URL, the page the form is on, the notification address, and the time of your test submission. A real person reads it, no automated responses.

Email notifications: FAQ

Can I change the sender name or subject of the notification?

Yes. Framer lets you customize the recipient, sender name, subject and body of the notification email, so put the fields you need in the subject line.

Can I send the notification to several people?

Yes. Enter the addresses under Send To, then Email, separated by commas with no spaces, publish, and have each person check spam once.

Why do some submissions arrive and others do not?

Usually spam scoring. Submissions with links, short bodies or free-mail addresses score worse. Allowing the sender fixes it, and a sheet or CRM destination gives you a record that does not depend on scoring.

Get alerts where you will see them

Post each submission to Slack or Discord, or send it straight into HubSpot, Mailchimp, Brevo, Beehiiv, MailerLite, Drip or Jotform. Framer Forms Connect does it from the form in about two minutes, no Zapier. Seven days free.
